The plan focuses on using native plant species, restoring pollinator habitats, and expanding tree canopies to improve ecosystem health. Volunteers actively participated in local initiatives, such as planting 70 trees around Crestmont Park in 2024 to commemorate Arbor Day. The Bird Window Strike Project, a partnership with Indiana University and local Audubon societies, addresses the issue of fatal bird-window collisions and advocates for bird-safe building designs. Heidi Shoemaker, the Natural Resources Coordinator, emphasized the importance of community dedication in achieving this recognition. Bloomington joins other Bird Town Indiana partners committed to reducing threats to birds and engaging residents in conservation efforts.
